Importance of culture in a work place

TARANG KHURANA

What is the need for culture in a workplace?
Culture makes your employees want to work for you and even if they leave it is the culture you develop in your organization that makes them remember your company. Essentially, culture is the beliefs and priorities that drive the thoughts and actions of the people at the organization. It is that driving factor that makes one want to go to their workplace every-day.

How to Develop Culture in your organization?

The three main compelling factors required to build a culture in any organization are:-

1. Vision: What is it that you’re seeking to do as an organization?
2. Unity: It has to be a coming together, a collaboration
3. Empowerment: People have to be able to do, people have to act all the pieces together.

When all your employees together as a whole are aligned to the same vision as your organization and
are regularly taking initiatives in several projects that’s when you can find culture developing.
Now, why do organizations generally lack culture and are unable to retain members for long??
I’m going to quote that famous pulp fiction scene where Mia Wallace goes for a dinner with Vincent
Vega "Why do we feel it's necessary to yak about bullshit in order to be comfortable?" Yes it is, that’s how human nature works so organizations need to build a routine that makes the people interact. Also,‘professionalism’ is another amazing way to develop a culture in the organization, because when a proper flow of work exists in a company employees tend to connect to each other well.

Another important way to develop a culture is to create an atmosphere that encourages people to feel
free to provide constant feedback. And now I’ll be quoting a scene from Nightcrawler where Jake
Gyllenhaal tells his partner “You see, Rick, they've done studies, and they found that in any system that relies on cooperation, from a school of fish or say even a professional hockey team for example, these experts have identified communication as the number one single key to success.”

Here are some things that would help build culture in your organization so that people fell a part of your company even after your leave.

Allow for crazy things to happen:-
1. Conduct a flash mob
2. Break a guiness record
3. Take part in challenges as a team (mannequin challenge, Harlem shake etc.)
4. Hold an eating competition
5. Hold Open mic
6. Hold roasts
7. Have theme parties
8. Give your own names to conventional tasks
9. Give your own names to different designations

Well go ahead and develop a culture for your company.
